Follow the Useless

  1. First of all, the stuff you did with the sound made it sound sooo much better. It's amazing what a few clicks can do!

I like the idea, and I think the contemplative individual fits with the feel and message of the song.

As Pierre pointed out, the use of longer shots sets your video apart from most music vids. At first, the long shots really annoyed me (I think Much Music has given me an attention disorder). However, the more I watch it, the less it bothers me. I think the first time I watched it I kept waiting for something to happen, but now that I know what's going to happen, I'm able to sit back and enjoy the other elements.

I think the playground at the beginning creates an odd juxtaposition. I get the sense that the young woman portrayed is dealing with some sort of problem - probably love or something - but the playground brings in that bit of childhood. I'm sure what you're trying to say there, or if you're trying to say anything in particular at all, but it just stands out to me every time I watch it.

My favorite part is around 2:27 or so, where she faces the camera for a moment, and then turns and walks away. She's almost smiling, and to me it seems like great alternate ending. It has this feeling of completeness, like she's content, and that she's going off to solve her problem or whatever it is.

I know you found that video isn't really your cup of tea, but I thought you might be interested is some HDR video, since you're really into HDR photo right now. I have no idea how you'd do it (maybe frame by frame like animation?) but it looks super cool. Also, it looks like this clip is from the London DLR, which makes it super uber cool.

  2. You're video has improved since the in-progress crit! The sounds being tighter really makes a huge difference. You should charge you're friend for helping to make him sound better! Not that it's not a good song. It is, and appropriate for your piece.

It's simple narrative, but it translates well. The music helps that. As well, I am torn between what Pierre said in the in-progress crit about short detail shots and long shots. I really like long shots. Music videos all done in one take are SO COOL.

And to add the Laaaaannn's commet. I've seen HDR videos on youtube. I think it's done with multiple cameras.

  3. Like stated above, you did wonders with the sound! I really enjoy how the song compliments the video, but it doesn't make it. The video could easily stand strong alone.I really enjoyed the narrative you presented

However I actually disagree with Pierre, I feel like the model did a good job, and she allowed me to feel what she was feeling which is always great in videos.

  5. What I think is most successful is how you've carefully framed the shots with the model and her surroundings. I think the video suits the song and that you've captured the idea of long contemplation well by using long shots.
